Ghosts of Halloweens Past

We take our Halloween costumes pretty seriously, and with the 31st quickly approaching, I feel it appropriate to do a recap and critique of the past 6 years' costumes. We will begin with 2011's creation.



Touristy Old People: This was a thrown together in one day home run. I think we really nailed a look that we could potentially use in the future. I like to picture us as flamboyant, travel the world type of old people. So I give this costume an -A.

It's ah-me, ah-Mario...(que Mario Cart music) ... This was a lot of fun. Trick-or-Treaters loved seeing a girl Luigi and little boys got really excited when they saw us both together. My favorite moment was when we ran into two boy children in the same costume at a party. There wasn't much creativity involved, however, so I had to give it a B.



Fancy Pink Flamingos = FAIL. My worst creation yet. I had a decent vision, but the execution was terrible and I underestimated how miserable wearing a mask all night could be. We didn't even take a picture of the actual night. This is one I would like to forget, and I actually did until writing this post. +D.

Polygamist Family. What can I say. Had we encountered any real polygamists this costume could have seemed a little insensitive, but since we dodged that bullet, I call this costume a huge success. It had long been on my list of costume creations, so I was thrilled at the opportunity. Jeff looked like a testosterone-pumped, pregnant Dolly Pardon, which added good comic relief. The year of the polygamist family with Meg and Kyle remains one of my all-time favorites. It deserves a solid A.

Nacho Libre and Incarnacion: A recreation of one of our favorite movies, this costume really allowed Jeff to get into character. He wandered the party flapping his cape and quoting all the best lines from the movie. I'm pretty sure it was one of the best nights of his life. For the entertainment factor alone and the absolute hilarity we felt all night, this costume gets an -A.

Hard Core Bikers: This was our first Halloweens together - we had been dating about 6 months - and I knew I'd found a winner. He was game for anything and this costume really brought out an interesting side of both of us...Anyway, as you can tell by the picture, we really enjoyed this one. -A

And just for kicks...2005 with roomies. +A

And that brings us to this year. So far my only idea is a knocked up cheerleader. We have 30 days people...the race is on to find costumes for Halloween 2012.
